Its what we do outside of our business that makes a true difference
Most of us on here, bloggers that is, have an "agenda" when we blog.We are looking for business, educating those in seek of answers (in hopes they use our services as we portray we are the "experts" in the area they are looking. I do it, you do it. I post my listings, blog about the home buying/selling process etc.
I read other blogs, all have some type of desire to connect with the reader for a business transaction. Not saying their is anything wrong with this, on the contrary, this is one of the platforms I used (and still use) to build my business and database. There was a time when my HUD Home blogs were ranked 1-10 on the Google Machine at any given time, its an epic tool for online traffic.
Today though, as I make the conscious effort to blog daily, I opted not to discuss business, but rather a different passion of mine, giving back.
3x a month, I coordinator or co-coordinate meal service at a Community Outreach called Paz de Cristo. Located in Mesa, just off Broadway and Country Club Drive, this non-profit organization is open 365 days a year. Paz provides meal service every single day (dinner). They also provide showers on Wednesdays, resume writing once a week, interview skills, Photo ID Services and more.
Paz serves not only the true "homeless" but the working poor as well, meaning those that live paycheck to paycheck and if something were to happen, they would be in dire straights without Paz's meal service. The meals we make are top of the line as well, I have served close to 9,000 meals in my time with Paz de Cristo and I am here to tell you, its some good food and an amazing time.
From Beef Stew to T-Bone Steaks, John (one of Paz's full time employees) collects all the donated food, prepares the menu and works with what he has. Anything you eat, we serve. Anyone is allowed to help with a few restrictions, you must be at least 13 years old, you have to wear close toed shoes and need to come ready to work. Its a wonderful kind of work though. Our guests look foward to this meal service all day, they are very grateful and thankful for what we do. Through this door, leads a joyful 3.5 hour of giving. Some of the jobs we pass on to our volunteers include meeting and counting the guests as they enter the food service line, serving the food itself.
We typically see 8-10 volunteers on the serving line. From the main course, to salad and dressing and everyone's favorite-desert. We also have 3 drink options, ranging from Milk, Mocha, Coffee, Tea, juice and/or soda. One of my first roles was "PB&J". Aside from greeting, this is by far one of the coolest gigs, you're the last person they typically see as they leave, you give them a PB&J to take with them. If you've never done this before, I suggest you come out and join the fun. You'll be hard pressed to find another opportunity to spend less than 4 hours and impact so many peoples lives. From one person to a family of 4, to teenagers to toddlers and elderly, its truly an experience that will warm your soul and keep you coming back for more.
